Ultimate Laos Guide

Laos is a landlocked country which makes up the golden triangle with its border connecting with Thailand and Myanmar. A great destination if you’re backpacking and want to travel by land to multiple places cheaply. Laos is still relatively quiet in terms of tourism but it’s absolutely not to miss. It has the most stunning scenery and is an epic destination for adventure.

In this Laos guide I will share all my tips on travelling to the best parts of Laos in 10 days. Here is my 10 day guide with everything you need to know. Please note that I didn’t actually make it to Vientiane or Pakse as I loved Luang Prabang and Vieng Vieng so much. This is the itinerary I intended to do originally.

Before you go

You will need to apply for a visa before you visit or you can get one on arrival. A Laos visa costs $35 USD and requires 2 passport photos. For more visa information including info on travelling into Laos click here

Getting around

The best way to get around each town/city is by hiring a scooter. It’s really cheap and allows you to explore on your own terms. You can also privately or group hire tuk tuks to get around. When travelling between cities the cheapest option is a sleeper bus. The journeys are quite long and the roads are uneven so take a nap before any journey as you aren’t guaranteed any sleep on a bus journey.

Day 1-3 in Luang Prabang

Luang Prabang is a city in Laos that feels more like a small town. Getting from A to B is really easy as everything is central. Hotels, guest houses & hostels are of many and the majority are by the main part of town. Luang Prabang has a great choice of restaurants and is a great place to explore.
